One of the most difficult decisions any of us will make, whether it be personal or on behalf of a parent, is at what point in time do you move a loved one from the comfort of their home to a retirement residence? What type of accommodation do they need, where do they wish to reside geographically, how will the family budget fit the anticipated expenses, etc? Following on from here at what point will their care requirements dictate a move to a full nursing facility; again all of the same questions and soul searching arise? Finally when the end is near, would a move to a Palliative Care Unit be beneficial?
All of these decisions require heart-wrenching decision making, realistic budgetary planning, hopefully the acquiescence of the party involved, what furniture and fixtures have to be disposed of and where? The list goes on and on and is one that unfortunately we will all run into at some point in our lives.
There is help out there from excellent Web Sites to comprehensive brochures, check everything out. Check out the accommodation, talk with the residents, eat a meal there, maybe book a short-term stay to gauge the experience.
